Marc Thomas

Vocals, bandleader, saxophone

Singer and saxophonist Marc Thomas is one of Europe’s most critically acclaimed jazz artists, following in the tradition of some of America’s iconic jazz vocalists (e.g., Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Creole, etc.) His amazing energy during live performances, unique scat cascades and accuracy of his musical jazz expression have led to his status as one of Europe’s most in-demand jazz artists.

He entered the Paris CIM school at 16, starting on the saxophone, supervised by Michel Roques and Jean-Claude Fohrenbach. Three years later he won the prestigious La Defence Jazz Festival award for the first time. Marc received this reward a second time 2 years later with Michel Godard and the Bakea band in a more contemporary repertoire. He has since joined and performed with internationally known artists as Sonny Rollins, Urbansax, Henry Guadon, Jerome Savary, Lee Konitz, Billy Hart, Marva Wright, Houston Person, Michel Graillier, Luidgi Trussardi, Charles Bellonzi, Georges Arvanitas, Emmanuel Bex, Daniel Huck, and Jean Loup Longnon

Nominated in 1998 at the Victoires de la Musique (French Grammy awards) in 1998, Marc Thomas gradually became the featured jazz vocalist of medium ensembles such as the 6-an-a-half vocal band, and large ensembles such as the Claude Bolling Big Band where he performed up to now as a soloist. He is regularly invited to perform in other prestigious ensembles (Russia, Poland, etc.) while continuing to deliver memorable gigs in France's best jazz clubs.
